Novak Djokovic will return to number one on the ATP Rankings after Carlos Alcaraz failed to defend his Miami Open title by losing to Sinner in the semi-finals.
Alcaraz replaced Djokovic as number one after winning Indian Wells but he'll be giving back the spot to Djokovic on Monday. In order to stay in the top spot Alcaraz needed to successfully defend his trophy but he failed as Jannik Sinner proved better last night. Sinner and Alcaraz have played some incredible matches over the past year and this one was another one.
Sinner is also one of the players that is proving that Alcaraz is beatable having beaten him a few times now. Djokovic will begin the 381st week as the number one player in the world extending his record by one more week. His next event should be the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters which is around the corner as well.
