Ons Jabeur looked in very good shape against Linette but the Tunisian completely threw away the match in crucial rallies.
The Tunisian player did not play the best of matches and it came back to bite her especially in moments where she honestly was just better. The first opened with Jabeur getting an early break but also giving it right back. Linette took a very aggressive approach and it worked at times.
Jabeur was a bit aloof as well which allowed Linette more than her talent could ensure her. Eventually, Jabeur found a break through and she added two breaks to her tally to finish off the opening set with 6-3. The 2nd set featured very good play by both. Linette certainly improved as she did take an MTO between sets for what seemed like a leg injury.
Jabeur had very good chances to break through but Linette was able to hold her serve for the most part. The Polish player failed to find break points of her own. She did eventually force a tiebreak where she simply outplayed Jabeur despite being down 1-3. She won it 7-4 and continued playing well in the final set. She was up a break early but Jabeur fought back to tie it up.
Eventually she benefitted from Jabeur throwing away a 40-0 lead at 6-5 for Linette. She gave the Polish player a match point after rushing and doing silly stuff on the court and Linette took it. Two and a half hours and the win for Linette. Well done.
