Opelka questions decision to drop Rublev from Nike deal: "He is top eight in the world though"

Reilly Opelka questioned the decision of Nike to part ways with Andrey Rublev as the Russian is part of the group of players axed by the company recently.

The Russian had an exclusive contract with Nike but it got terminated recently as the sportswear giant severed ties with several tennis players. Other players that were let go by them are Sloane Stephens, Marta Kostyuk, Marketa Vondrousova and Donna Vekic. According to reports, the decision came after these players failed to meet the requirements of their contracts.

The requirements mostly include ranking-based stuff as well as the need to win trophies which they failed to do. Opelka wondered why Rublev was then let go cause he fulfilled all of that. He voiced his opinion on Twitter:

"Rublev is top 8 in the world tho.. also plays every single week."

Some fan replies assumed that him establishing his own brand might have something to do with it and would have breached the contract he had with Nike.
