Benchetrit began proceedings with a 3-1 win in the final quarter in sudden death after a closely fought tie with his compatriot Lucas Pouille. He won the first quarter 16-11 but lost the next two 14-11 and 14-12. He won the next one 15-10 which sent it to sudden death which the former won.

Paire against Dustin Brown was just as close to begin the tie. He came from losing the first quarter to win the next three 17-14, 18-15 and 21-12 as he added his first points on the board.
