Fans
rallied behind
Taylor Fritz after he admitted to accidentally liking a
homophobic post. The American found himself in controversy when MMA fighter
Sean Strickland posted a tweet with comments against the LGBTQ community.
Strickland referred to Pride Month and mentioned George Washington to argue
that the historical American figure wouldn't agree with celebrating Pride
Month.
Another
user responded to the tweet, stating that if the founding fathers "would
press the reset button." It was precisely this comment that Fritz
accidentally liked, a fact revealed by a user named Melanie Lautrup, causing it
to quickly go viral that the ATP world No. 11 liked such comments.
As soon as
Fritz realized, he clarified that he accidentally liked it while browsing the
MMA fighter's profile a few days ago: “Holy shit I just got sent this and had a
heart attack…. I DEFINITELY didn’t purposefully like this, I was looking at
Stricklands profile a couple days ago cause of all the news he was in while in
Vegas.”
“I had to
of accidentally liked that while scrolling the replies but wow just want to
make it clear for anyone that doesn’t know me i absolutely don’t stand for any
of this and if u we’re to look at my likes it’s either all gaming/tennis things
I would NEVER do that on purpose,” he added.

Fritz's
post was flooded with responses from fans who thanked the tennis player for
clarifying the situation. They affirmed that it was known Fritz is a good
person and would not promote homophobic discourse.
Some user
mention: “So easy to do! We know you aren’t the type to actually like that
crap!”.
“You have
to respect the speed (and how clearly genuine this correction is.)” another fan
added.
“Maybe i’m
just naive but taylor has never done anything to make me believe he would
purposely “like” a tweet like this 🤷🏻♀️ it was fair to call him out but he seems genuinely regretful about this,”
some user wrote.

some of the supportive comments the tennis player received on X (former
