Following the most recent setback with the coronavirus that prevented him from the Australian Open appearance, Andy Murray returned to action in Biella, Montpellier and Rotterdam.
The former world no. 1 reached Biella Challenger's final before an early exit in Montpellier, experiencing the fourth consecutive ATP loss since September. Determined to avoid the worst losing streak in a career on an ATP level, Andy battled hard against Robin Haase in the Rotterdam opening round, prevailing 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 after winning the last six games. In the second round, the Briton played well in the opening set against the top-10 star Andrey Rublev before experiencing a 7-5, 6-2 loss in an hour and 34 minutes.
Andy won only 17 points on the return and wasted all three break chances, staying in touch with the better-ranked opponent before hitting a double fault in game 11 that sent him behind. Serving for the set, Rublev fended off two break chances and landed a forehand winner to grab the opener 7-5 and sail towards the finish line in set number two. Confident about his game, Andy will now play in Dubai and Miami, two events he won in the past and where he likes to compete.
