Novak Djokovic US Open 2021
Novak Djokovic most likely won't play at the US Open due to his unvaccinated status but fans are trying to get him there at all costs.
The calls to allow Novak Djokovic to play at the US Open are getting louder and louder. It's mostly coming from fans but several of his colleagues have lobbied for him to play at the US Open as well as John McEnroe who pleaded with everybody to make it happen.
It's a fair stance to have however this is not something that is unfair to Djokovic. The Serbian made an educated choice and he's willing to live with the consequences or rather the rules that certain countries have in place. Those rules are for everyone and all the other players that will play at the US Open will do so because they follow the rules.
There is nothing discriminatory about this situation as much as Djokovic's fans think it so. To try and help him, they have started a petition to allow Djokovic to play at the US Open and it's gotten 12.000 signatures so far. The petition description reads:
"There is absolutely no reason at this stage of the pandemic to not allow Djokovic to play at the US Open 2022. (The) US Government and USTA must work together to allow him to play ... MAKE IT HAPPEN, USTA!"
The only way Djokovic could play unvaccinated at the US Open is with an exemption which the USTA would have to apply for on his behalf. Unfortunately for Djokovic and his fans, they have categorically ruled out making such a move opting to follow government guidelines.
