Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that he
is struggling from fitness concerns after going through a rigorous campaign at
the Paris Olympics. The tennis event in the competition is coming to an end
where remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize for
their respective countries.
Alcaraz, who is already regarded as one of the best player
currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category along with Italy’s
Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, is currently taking part in the competition
in the singles category, was quoted in a report where he admitted that the
ongoing competition is taking at toll on his body.
"Today was a fight, pure fight, pure determination,” he
said. “Physically we are not at our best, we are not going to fool ourselves.
Today I woke up quite tired because of yesterday, which was quite intense. We
are in the Olympics, playing for Spain, which for me is one of the most
beautiful things in the world and that is what drives you up and what makes me
not think about the tiredness, but give everything I have. I went out on the
court trying to play with a lot of intensity.”
That comment is largely because Alcaraz already took part in
the doubles category as well but he and his partner — former world number one
Spain’s Rafael Nadal — were knocked out in the quarterfinal after they lost to the
American pair of Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in straight sets. The four-time
Grand Slam winner stays very much alive in the singles category where he booked
his place in the semifinal after beating America’s Paul in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 7-6. He will face Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime in the last-four
clash who booked his place in the semifinal after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud
with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.
