It was two surprising victories that brought Poland their first point at the ATP Cup. First, Kacper Zuk faced Dennis Novak, who was the favorite of the match as players are separated by more than 300 places in the ATP Ranking.
And Novak kicked-off the match as it was expected, with a victory of the first set 7-5. However, the Polish player fought in the second to win it in the tie-break and added the 6-3 victory in the third to give his country 1-0 lead.
In the second match, Dominic Thiem faced Hubert Hurkacz. It is not a very successful week for the Austrian as he first lost to Coric and now struggled against Hurkacz. Thiem has won the first set in the match 6-3, but Hurkacz leveled the scored of the match when he has won the 2nd set 6-4. In the third set, it was tie-break that decided, and the player from Poland was more successful and he gave his country 2-0 lead in a tie against Austria.
In doubles, it will be Marach & Melzer who will decide against Hurkacz & Kubot if Poland will have any chance of advancing into quarterfinals or not as they need the best score possible to keep the chances alive.
