Tennis has always been extremely popular in Britain yet the country with a longstanding tennis history did not have too much success for quite a while.
Andy Murray was, for a long time, the only notable British name in tennis but right now a few others have climbed back up.
Emma Raducanu is at the forefront of the charge with the young Brit completely stunning the world with her surprise run at the US Open. She played fabulous tennis bringing together a whole nation in watching tennis.
Besides Raducanu there have been other players such as Dan Evans and
Cameron Norrie who have also had solid success in the past few years. With Murray's resurgence, tennis has once again become a topic in the UK. That is according to former player Anne Keothavong who said:
“There is a feel-good factor in British tennis at the moment. On the
back of Emma [Raducanu] and Cam’s [Cameron Norrie’s] success it is a
really exciting time. People are talking about tennis, people are interested in tennis and people want to play. It is great.”
Speaking on Raducanu she further said:
“It is still a steep learning curve for her and she needs to make
sure she is robust and fit enough to withstand the demands that being on
tour brings. It is not only traveling week on week but also being
the target of other players so soon in her career. She’s the one who
everyone wants to beat."
On Murray's resurgence she said:
“The guy has a metal hip but he is still moving like a gazelle at times. Stringing wins together has been the difficulty. But the signs are good and I think there is a lot to be positive about with Andy.”
