World no. 2 Rafael Nadal is training with Jannik Sinner in Adelaide this week, shaping his game ahead of the Melbourne trip and the season's first official encounter against Alex de Minaur.
Jannik and Rafa trained in Melbourne a year ago, and the 20-time Major champion picked the young gun as his training partner this week, respecting Sinner a lot and predicting him a bright future.
Sinner is the world's most prominent teenager, cracking the top-40 in 2020 following his first ATP title in Sofia (the youngest ATP champion since 2008) and the maiden Major quarter-final at Roland Garros.
Jannik made a notable debut in Paris and won four matches to set the quarter-final clash with the clay king Nadal. The youngster showed his rich talent and fearless tennis, stealing Nadal's serve at 5-5 in the opener and serving for the set. The more experienced player pulled the break back in the last moment and won the tie break to avoid an early setback.
Jannik grabbed a break early in the second set but that wasn't enough to keep him safe, losing ground in the rest of the clash and allowing Rafa to score a 7-6, 6-4, 6-1 triumph and advance into the semis. Nadal and Sinner will compete in A Day at the Drive exhibition in Adelaide on Friday before traveling to Melbourne.
