Rafael Nadal tested positive for COVID-19 upon his return to Spain after the Abu Dhabi tennis event and he now explained what had happened.
Nadal was one of several tennis players that took part in the event and tested positive after it. His test was taken at the airport and it came back positive with the Spaniard experiencing symptoms which he detailed when asked about it in a recent interview. He said:
"To be honest I started feeling bad on the plane back home. I got a negative test before the flight that morning. After the match against Shapovalov, I started feeling under the weather but I got a negative test from a few hours ago so I flew home."
Nadal further said:
"After I arrived I went to the hospital for the safety of older family members. I self-isolated and they called me and it was positive. The first four days were horrible. I could not move and I had joint pains. Laying on the sofa with a high fever. For the next 3 days, I was very tired but by day 8 I was able to use the bicycle at home. Then I got a negative test."
