Rafael Nadal won't play until at least the 2024 Australian Open and as a result, the Spaniard who was in the top 10 for longer than anyone else will continue his ranking slide.
In the latest ATP Ranking Update, Nadal currently sits just inside the world's top 250. It will likely be until the next Australian Open that he will remain in the rankings due to playing this year.
Unlike Simona Halep for instance in the WTA who eclipsed a year out of the sport, so fell off the rankings entirely. There is also to note as well that he will receive a wildcard come what may or use a protected ranking from when he last played to play any tournaments on his return.
But he will start from a lowly position if he does aim to return towards the top of the rankings. The same can be said too for Nick Kyrgios who has fallen out of the rankings as he aims to return to tennis.
He last played at the BOSS Open in Stuttgart in June where he lost to Yibing Wu in the opening round and since had aborted comeback attempts at Wimbledon and US Open, with the aim likely being like Nadal in Australia.
