Rafael Nadal set for return in spring after medical examination in Barcelona, likely return in run up to Roland Garros

Rafael Nadal has said that the timeframe for his return to action remains unchanged after his hip injury saw Mackenzie McDonald see off the Spaniard at the Australian Open.

Nadal visited the Clínica Tenis Teknon in Barcelona for medical assessment and the results were as expected with further examinations in three weeks' time.

Despite still being on the entry list, he is out of Dubai and Doha and is a doubt for Indian Wells and Miami with the likelihood being that he returns heading towards Roland Garros.

“Today I have been at the Clínica Tenis Teknon in Barcelona where they have carried out some tests on me,” Nadal wrote on Twitter. “The Melbourne results are confirmed and the deadlines remain the same.

“We established the treatments to follow and in three weeks they will carry out new tests to see the evolution.”
