Rafael Nadal has not played since Roland Garros with the Spaniard missing Wimbledon and the Olympic Games.
His decision to skip those events was shocking when he announced it but it became sensible once he explained the reasons for it. He named the reason as 'prolonging his career' while his coach Moya explained that Nadal was exhausted mentally and physically after a long and gruelling clay season.
Nadal did not offer insight into when he would return to tennis but now we have an answer. The Citi Open in Washington updated its official entry list with Nadal's name on it. The Spaniard accepted a wild card into the ATP 500 event.
The Spaniard automatically became the number one seed at the event that features several notable players. Other players taking part are Shapovalov, De Minaur, Hurkacz, Auger-Aliassime, Dimitrov, Raonic. The event is set to start on the 2nd of August and run till the 8th of August.
