While Taylor Fritz v Alexander Bublik moved to the lead showcourt at the Olympic Games, other ties at Roland Garros to begin Saturday weren't so lucky with a washout likely outside of Court Philippe-Chatrier and Suzanne-Lenglen.
Bianca Andreescu's Olympic Games debut has been delayed as one of the leading ties to be cancelled for the day. The former US Open champion paraded her fit on TikTok last night but it is the closest her outfit has got to a court today.
Andreescu was due to face Clara Tauson on Court Nine. But also cancelled was her teammates Gabriela Dabrowski and Leylah Fernandez in doubles action. Stan Wawrinka v Pavel Kotov also won't happen today with the Simonne-Mathieu placed tie cancelled. Same can be said for Christopher Eubanks v Benjamin Hassan.
Lulu Sun will be one of those not relieved, she was added late to singles with Yulia Putintseva's withdrawal so now will have to play singles and doubles on Sunday. It has been a theme of Roland Garros as of late with the opening few days of the French Open having rain problems.
The same can be said for the Olympic Games with no play until earliest 5:30pm local time. Likely as a result there will be a lot of matches completed tomorrow aas a result. Jack Draper v Kei Nishikori, Tommy Paul v Luciano Darderi, Karolina Muchova v Leylah Fernandez are among those still on the slate but aside from moving matches, all will hinge on weather so likely if they play it will be during the Night Session.
Overall though not an ideal start for a tournament which aimed to double stack players with both singles and doubles on Day One but will endure further nightmares on Day Two as the other sides of respective draws also play.
Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz and Osaka v Kerber are unlikely to be affected as both play on roof covered show courts but whether any outer courts get played is unlikely given how early matches are cancelled today.
