Quarterfinal matches at the 2020 Rio Open were suspended due to rain when only Christian Garin and Borna Coric managed to book the semifinal spots.
Federico Coria and
Christian Garin opened the day in Rio de Janeiro. The Argentinian had a quick start into the match, winning the first set 6-2. However, the third-seeded Garin was able to come back in the second set winning it 6-3. In the 3rd set, the Chilean managed to secure the semifinal spot at
Rio Open, winning it 7-5.
There was only one player that managed to win the match on this day. It was Croatian
Borna Coric who faced Lorenzo Sonego. Also, this match was suspended due to rain but it was later finished. Coric turned away 3 set points in the first set to win it in a tie-break. In the second set,
world number 32 managed to break Sonego's service game to win the set 6-3.
The other two matches of the day were not finished, however, 2 players have a big advantage ahead of the next day. Pedro Martinez leads 6-2, 2-2 against Attila Balasz.
The first-seeded, Dominic Thiem will have a difficult task on day 6 in Rio. The Austrian is losing 6-7, 1-2 with break down in the second set to Gianluca Mager. The Italian did not lose a set at Rio Open this year yet, coming from the qualifying. On the other hand, Thiem needed 3 sets in both of his previous appearances in Brasil.
