Milos Raonic and Miomir Kecmanovic started their St. Petersburg Open journeys with victories against Wolf and Kecmanovic.
Milos Raonic is back on the courts at the St. Petersburg Open and his first match at the event was a strong showing against Wolf. The Canadian won the 97-minute match by 7-6(5) and 6-1. As the scoreline paints it, it was truly a match of two opposite sets. The first set was a hard-fought battle between the two tennis players as both played well enough to handle the other. Raonic had early break points but failed to convey them. Wolf had break points late in the set which were actually set points, but Raonic saved all 5 of them. In the tiebreak, it was the Canadian who pulled away with 7-5.
The 2nd set was a complete demolition by Raonic who figured out Wolfe by then and the American dropped off a cliff in the 2nd set. All in all a good introductory win for the Canadian. Joining him in the 2nd round will be Miomir Kecmanovic who is back to tennis after a solid clay season. The Serbian faced off against the ever-tricky Kukushkin and defeated him 6-3 7-6(7) in 97 minutes as well. Kecmanovic played well from the start but Kukushkin held him off fairly well.
He was even better in the 2nd set fending off Kecmanovic's advances one after the other. In the end, we had to go to a tiebreak and it the Serbian prevailed barely with 9-7. A tricky match for the Serbian but he will be happy to go through in straight sets.
