Some of the top American players are certain that the country will see a grand slam champion sooner rather than later with Fritz, Tiafoe and others ready to step up.
Frances Tiafoe was one set away from a grand slam final last year at the US Open and
Taylor Fritz had some decent runs as well. Both of them are capable of winning it and both of them are working towards it with the US as a country eager to have a grand slam champion once more. It's been a long time since Andy Roddick won one and it's time.
On the topic, Fritz said in Miami:
"We've been asked that kind of stuff forever, so it's definitely
pretty old. But we'll probably be getting asked about it a lot more now because I
do think now people are seeing that, between a couple of us, there are
real slam contenders. Realistically, any of the upcoming slams could be
the one."
On the same question, Tiafoe responded:
"I think the conversation almost needs to stop, but obviously it won't until it happens. But our guys are doing great things. Guys are knocking on the door,
but it's a matter of doing it. You still have some guys named Novak
Djokovic. I don't care about where you're from, he is not letting you
get slams."
