America’s tennis star
Reilly Opelka has been ruled out of
the upcoming
US Open 2023.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year will begin in
less than 15 days’ time in New York where players from all over the world will participate
and showcase their talent.
Opelka became the latest high-profile player to withdraw from
the competition as he failed to recover from fitness concerns. The news was
confirmed by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old has not played since August 2022 because of
multiple injuries. First, it was his hip which halted his progress on the court and
later he suffered a wrist injury.
The news will be a devastating one for Opelka who is still looking
to make his mark at the highest level.
The Michigan-born has never played in the quarterfinal or
beyond at any Grand Slam.
His best in a major tournament outing to date is
playing in the fourth round of the US Open in 2021 where he came second best
after suffering a defeat against South Africa’s Lloyd Harris with a score of
6-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.
