There has been speculation that TEAM8, the sporting agency established by
Roger Federer is interested in purchasing the rights to the ATP Cincinnati Masters event, and
Andy Roddick is fully supportive of the notion.
Federer has experienced a lot of success in Cincinnati, winning the title seven times during his illustrious career. Roddick believes this achievement and the Swiss legend's relationship with the people of Cincinnati would make for an ideal arrangement.
"In the world of tennis, where conflict of interests knows no bounds at all, Roger can do this," said Roddick. "He’s obviously been a great steward for the game, has created an incredible relationship with the fans in the city of Cincinnati.”
Furthermore, the 2003 US Open champion stated it would be in the best interest of tennis if the tournament was acquired by someone who actually knew and understood the sport.
"You would like to see it stay in the tennis family, with someone who actually knows and loves our sport," said the former World No.1. "So we will see, from what I hear, there are a number of interested parties but it is nice to see responsible names in the mix.”
