Switzerland’s legendary tennis star Roger Federer has warned Spain’s young sensation Carlos Alcaraz to be vary of his ‘physical capabilities’. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category along with the likes of Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic.
Federer, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, having won as many as 20 Grand Slam titles, was recently quoted in a report where he warned the young Spaniard to be vary of his physical capabilities and not push the limits going forward.
“His intensity, the power in his shots already, his physical capabilities that he has,” he said “Obviously, he's got to be careful, you know, (that) he doesn't run basically for every ball because it's not necessary. But he'll learn that with age and with time. But also very strong (mentally) when it matters the most."
Alcaraz is going through a fabulous 2024 season, where he won two out of four Grand Slam titles. The former world number one first won the French Open after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2. He then won the Wimbledon title after beating Serbia’s Djokovic in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. Alcaraz also played in the final of the singles category event at the Paris Olympics, where he lost to Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. He is currently taking part in the China Open, where he booked his place in round 16 after beating France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the tournament opener in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
