Andrey Rublev and Corentin Moutet set up 2020 Qatar Open final after successfully handling 2 matches in one day
It was a difficult day for all of the players involved in Doha.
After the rain stopped quarterfinal day at the 2020
Qatar Open, players had to play both their quarterfinal and semifinal matches during one day. Andrey Rublev and
Corentin Moutet were the strong ones who managed to do this.
Andrey Rublev kicked-off the day against Pierre-Hugues Herbert. He was successful when he did not need to play more than 2 sets and saved some energy for his semifinal match. Rublev defeated Herbert 6-4 and 6-3 after 104 minutes.
In the second match in Doha, Corentin Moutet faced Fernando Verdasco in a 3-set quarterfinal battle. In the end, the Frenchman triumphed when he defeated the Spaniard 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
No. 1 at the tournament, Stan Wawrinka was also included during the Day 5 in Doha. In his quarterfinal match, the Swiss defeated Aljaz Bedene 6-3, 6-4.
In the first semifinal match of the day, Andrey Rublev faced Miomir Kecmanovic, who as the only player had a rest after he managed to play his quarterfinal match yesterday. However, it did not help him in the match against Rublev. The Russian easily earned his final spot after 6-3, 6-1 victory in less than an hour.
In the last match of the long day in Qatar, Stan Wawrinka met Corentin Moutet. The qualifier from France has a great form in Doha when he previously defeated Sandgren, Raonic, and Verdasco. In his semifinal match, Moutet was 3-6 down after the first set, but he fought back to win the second 7-5 and won the third 6-3, to earn his first ATP final of the 2020 Season.
