Russia’s
Andrey Rublev made an impressive return after
suffering a
Wimbledon quarterfinal defeat last week.
The 25-year-old left London quickly after the last-eight
encounter against Serbia’s Novak Djokovic where he ended on the wrong side with
a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
In a bid to recover from that result quickly, Rublev participated
in the Copa del Rey de Tenis event where he ended up victorious after defeating
Croatia’s Borna Coric with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
Despite that result in the quarterfinal against the 23-time
Grand Slam winner, Rublev must be feeling good about his performance in the
third Grand Slam of the year.
The 25-year-old defeated Australia’s Max Purcell in the
opening round of the competition in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
He then got the better of fellow Russian Aslan Karatsev in
the round of 64 with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.
In the third round, Rublev defeated Belgium’s David Goffin in
four sets with a score of 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.
In the round of 16 clash, the Moscow-born came out on top against
Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in a five-set thriller with a score of 7-5, 6-3,
6-7, 6-7, 6-4.
Rublev's next assignment will be the Nordea Open which will be
played from July 17-23 in Bastad, Sweden.
