Tunisia’s
Ons Jabeur has admitted that the 2023
Wimbledon final
defeat is the ‘most painful’ loss in her career.
The 28-year-old suffered a defeat against Czech Republic’s Marketa
Vondrousova in the grand finale of the third Grand Slam of the year in straight
sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday in London.
Talking after the match, Jabeur, who was in tears, reiterated
her desire to not ‘give up’ despite the setback.
"I'm going to look ugly in the photos," she said. "It
will be tough to speak because this is very tough. I think this is the most
painful loss of my career. It's going to be a tough day today but I am not
going to give up. We're going to make it one day, I promise you."
The defeat will indeed going to be a tough one for Jabeur
who has now lost back-to-back Wimbledon finals.
Last year, she was on the wrong side of the result in the
all-important clash against Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina with a score of 3-6,
6-2, 6-2.
Not only that but this is Jabeur’s third Grand Slam final
defeat. She was also beaten in the grand finale of the US Open 2022 by current world
number one Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-2, 7-6.
