Andrey Rublev continues to rise his game with every match as the Russian booked a semi-final matchup with Zverev in Dubai for a place in the final.
Outside of the Australian Open, Rublev didn't really have a very good year. He's had some good moments but for the most part his tennis was a good level below what he usually produces. Today was a solid one as he downed a tricky player in two sets to advance to the semi-final. Both players were aggressive but Rublev was far more precise.
Both had 12 winners but Rublev had only 5 errors which was way less than what van de Zandschulp had and that was enough for the 6-3 set. The second set was equally sharp by the Russian as he took an early lead 3-1.
It didn't last long because Botic was able to battle back and complicate things further with the tiebreak ultimately decided. The Dutch player was the one with more errors once more but he was able to distribute them rather well. Rublev had 7 aces and 16 winners in the second set but only managed to get it done in the tiebreak 7-3.
