Andrey Rublev won the title at the Kremlin Cup in his home town Moscow after a comfortable victory over Adrian Mannarino.
The Russian played a great tournament in Russia defeating players like Bublik or Cilic. In the final, he faced Mannarino who did not lose a set in Moscow and played in the final a year ago. Rublev spoke after the match yesterday:
“I am insanely happy to reach the finals at home in Moscow… This tournament evokes my childhood. For me, going out to play in the finals tomorrow is incredible," said Rublev.
Karen Khachanov played Adrian Mannarino in the final of the
Kremlin Cup a year ago and so Andrey mentioned he texted his friend.
“I immediately texted [Khachanov] after I left the court, ‘Tell me everything you know because I also want to win,'” said Rublev.
And probably the help from Khachanov helped as Rublev lost only 4 games in the final, the same number as Khachanov did a year ago. Rublev won the match 6-4 and 6-0 to claim the first title since Umag 2017. In the ATP ranking, he will move to his career-high 22nd place.
