Holger Rune was ready to accept that he'll play three sets but a sudden chance presented itself and the Dane took it in the 7-6(1) 7-6(6) win.
As you can see it was a very competitive and close match with both players playing rather well. Rune played in Stockholm last week and did really well ending up with the trophy in the Swedish capital. He'll have a chance to do the same thing in Basel against Auger-Aliassime.
The win over Bautista was a great one, especially the comeback in the second set which he was fairly close to losing. The start of the match already indicated that Rune was ready to go as Bautista had to save a couple of early break points.
Those were the only ones either player faced in the opening set as we ended up in a tiebreak, one where Rune dominated his way to a 7-1 win. He was just amazing with 8 aces and 24 winners overall which made the five of Bautista look fairly weak.
The second set was one where Rune was forced to save break points as his ball striking wasn't as clean as before. He was able to get to the tiebreak without forcing a single break point, pretty much the reverse of the first set. He was down 2-6 after some more errors but stormed back to make 6-6. He then closed it out 8-6.
