Casper Ruud moved through his opening round at the Mallorca Championships as he recorded his first victory of the grass court season.
Ruud saw off Gilles Simon 6-4, 7-6(4) on Monday afternoon as he broke the Frenchman's serve twice and won 80% of his first-service points to advance. He will now face Tennys Sandgren with one of the main potential ties for the second round confirmed.
This is after the American saw off the challenge of Spaniard, Jaume Munar 7-6(3), 7-5.
