The stakes were high for both Ruud and Schwartzman with a spot in the 4th in play. They were both in difficult situations as they both lost the opening sets but also came back to win giving themselves a chance to play for the quarterfinals in the next round. Ruud took on Lloyd Harris in a match that was dominated by the spectacular play of both.
Both are in fabulous form and it showed as Harris was literally unplayable when serving dominating rallies. Ruud was able to fend off early break points but lost the set in the tiebreak 6-7(4). A similar 2nd set followed with Harris once again the better player. The South African could not convert break points and that proved costly later when he lost his serve at 4-4 ultimately losing the set with 6-4.
In the final one, Ruud finally found a breakthrough as Harris did not serve as well as early on. Once Ruud was able to keep the rallies longer and return more balls than usual Harris was in trouble and the Norwegian completed the comeback. Joining him in the round will be Diego Schwartzman who dominated early against Evans.
He had a 5-2 lead but proceeded to completely fall apart losing 5 games in a row to drop the set 5-7. He continued bad play in the 2nd set with Evans taking a 2-0 lead. Schwartzman eventually came back from 2-4 down to win the 2nd set with 6-4. In the final one, he dominated his opponent winning it 6-0.
