Sebastian Korda impressed many with his win over Alcaraz in Monte-Carlo last week but today he played his worst match in recent memory against Taberner in Barcelona 3-6 0-6.
Playing Spaniards on Spanish clay is always tricky because the courts play really slow and most of them are very used to it. Korda, played two doubles matches in Barcelona this week so he got used to the conditions but today against Taberner it mattered little. From the start it was obvious the American was not playing very well and his body language was quite negative.
The Spaniard on the other hand was quite upbeat from the start and he played a very good match. Taberner mostly struggles with consistency and he tends to spray a lot of errors but none of that was on display today as the Spaniard pretty much dominated the rallies. Korda missed too much and did not serve that well which proved costly.
Tabrner cruised to a 6-3 first set finish with Korda looking quite disappointed with his effort. Many expected a better display in the 2nd set but they actually got an even worse one. Korda looked quite dejected after losing his serve early in the match and from there he simply rushed to end it as quickly as possible. A disappointing result for the American who can play wonderful tennis on clay.
