Sebastian Korda shined once again in Milan taking down Sebastian Baez in three sets coming close to secure a spot in the semifinals.
Sebastian Korda arrived in Milan after a very good showing in Paris where he almost defeated eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev. The American earned a hard-fought win over Gaston in R1 of the event which in his own words injected him with confidence. That confidence was seen today despite a rocky start that saw him lose his serve very early in the first set.
Baez was up 3-1 due to a slow start by Korda but once the American got properly warmed up he was able to take control of the match. First, he pulled it back to 3-3 forcing a tiebreak which he then won 7-3 with some stellar play. Korda served well in that first set but his serve got even better with time.
Baez demonstrated great serving ability a swell as the Argentinian got out of many tricky situations thanks to his serve which Korda failed to put into the court. The American was sensational on his own serve as well not allowing his opponent any chances and he won the 2nd set with 4-2. The 3rd set was another one where Korda dominated with his serve.
The American barely lost any point and he was able to close out the match with 4-2 converting a break point he had on Baez's serve. The Argentinian will have to look for a place in the semifinal tomorrow against Gaston. Korda joins Alcaraz as the first two semifinalists of the event.
