Sebastian Korda madrid Open
Two future superstars of the game clashed in Monte-Carlo today with Sebastian Korda winning a pretty sloppy match overall by both 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 6-3.
As suggested above this was not a very good tennis match overall with both players quite a bit below their usual level. Carlos Alcaraz was pretty much awful from start to finish never quite finding a rhythm He was off the entire match piling up bunches of errors with very few winners sprayed in between. Korda was a bit more solid overall which is why he won.
Both players struggled with their serve as Alcaraz was broken several times in this match as was Korda. The Spaniard struggled immensely in the first set where he served for it twice only to lose his serve both times and then collapse in the tiebreak. The 2nd set was a similar one was Alcaraz once again held the lead for the majority of the set but gave it away.
He was able to win the tiebreak and force a 3rd set however his play was still not good. Korda was a bit more efficient with his game considering he had way fewer chances on the Spaniard's serve. Had Korda been a bit sharper this would have been a comfortable win but Alcaraz left a lot on the table. He had 19 break points and converted only six.
He was up 2-0 in the final set but lost that He was up 30-0 at 4-3 for Korda and lost his serve to give the American a decisive win. An overall sloppy match by both but well fought by Korda who moves on as the better player today.
