Rafael Nadal showcased all his might on clay defeating
Novak Djokovic in straight sets to lift his 13th
Roland Garros trophy.
It was a sensational display from Nadal who defeated Djokovic in to claim his 13th Roland Garros trophy. The result was as impressive as the display on the court which saw him win 6-0 6-2 7-5 in two and a half hours of play. The first set was utter domination from Nadal who came out furious determined to set the tone early and get a grip on the match. He did just that by winning the opening set with 6-0 against Djokovic who tried his best early but he was simply overmatched from the start.
Nadal played an aggressive style of play as Djokovic allowed him to result in 10 winners and only two unforced errors by Nadal. Novak tried to match it but besides hitting 11 winners he also had 13 unforced errors. The 2nd set didn't bring anything good to Novak either. He struggled to win games on his serve almost losing his serve in the opening game. Unable to contain Nadal he lost next two service games giving Nadal a decisive lead which resulted in the 6-2 2nd set win for the Spaniard. Novak continued playing aggressive while Nadal toned it down a bit seeing as everything was going his way. A great number of winners for Novak (14) was erased by the sheer amount of errors he committed as well (17).
The 3rd set started off with an easy game for Djokovic which he used as a confidence boost but issues soon arose in the next service game which he barely won and it was a foreshadowing of things to come. In his next service game, at 2-2, Djokovic lost the game without winning a single point. Facing imminent defeat Djokovic played a strong game to break Nadal for the first time in the match and tie it at 3-3. After that Novak's play got better but still Nadal found ways to threaten with the break.
After saving one break point Djokovic faced yet another in the service game after that and this time Nadal seized it to take a 6-5 lead only 4 points from the title. He won the game without dropping a point and by doing so became a 13th time Roland Garros champion. An incredible feat and we offer our congratulations.
