Serbia’s young tennis player
Olga Danilovic has called
fellow countryman
Novak Djokovic ‘the greatest player of all time’. The 37-year-old
is often regarded as one of the best players in the history of men’s tennis in
the singles category in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles
in his illustrious career.
Danilovic has been recently quoted in a report by Tennis 365
where she praised Djokovic and called him the ‘greatest’ tennis player of all
time. The 23-year-old further went on to reveal that the Belgrade-born star
always takes time for the players of his country.
“Having Novak represent our country in the best way possible
and taking care of every player there is on tour, especially Serbians, is
massive,” she said. “He is always there for us and he always finds time for us.
He is a very down-to-earth guy. Having him is such a blessing. I’m not sure we
are entirely conscious of the kind of person we have in our country, but we
have to appreciate him so much. As tennis players, we understand how tough it
is to achieve what we have done, so he is a true blessing. He is absolutely the
greatest player of all time. Being Serbian and having his name as every record
in No. 1, it’s something we are all so proud of. He is going to leave a crazy
legacy behind of being the greatest athlete in the world. He has that Serbian
mentality.”
Djokovic has gone through
a mixed campaign. For the first time in seven years, the 37-year-old failed to
win a Grand Slam. However, the former world number one managed to complete his
trophy cabinet as he finally won the Olympic gold medal for his country. He
defeated Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the
singles category in Paris in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
