Working on @steftsitsipas' first serve return last week at the @MouratoglouAcad. A few tips: • No backswing, just turn your shoulders • Drive the ball, don’t hit it • Move your body weight in the direction where you want to hit
World no. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas is ready for the clay swing, practicing on the slowest surface and looking for the upcoming challenges en route to Roland Garros, where he played in the semis last year.
Stefanos will compete in Monte Carlo for the third time, hoping for a strong start on the new surface and planning to enter many tournaments ahead of Roland Garros, setting eyes on the ATP Finals in Turin.
Stefanos had some solid results on clay in the past three years, and he wants more of that in 2021, understanding how important is every point in the ATP Race to Turin. Stefanos will face the young Italian Lorenzo Musetti or the Australian Open semi-finalist Aslan Karatsev in the second round.
"I'm fighting for the FedEx ATP Race to Turin, and I'm trying to make as many points as possible. I need to be playing a lot of tournaments before Roland Garros. Clay is a surface that I love to play and explore my game on. I've practiced a lot of days on clay. I've been feeling well, and my body is in good shape. Currently, I feel like I'm working a lot on my physicality when I play friendly matches on clay.
I think that's going to be the most important aspect in my game during the clay-court season. I would go for Lorenzo Musetti against Aslan Karatsev. He has played plenty of matches on clay. I think he's getting in shape match by match," Stefanos Tsitsipas said.
