Day 3 at the 2020 ASB Classic brought a few surprises when 1st and 3rd seeded at the tournament lost their 2nd round matches while 2nd seeded Shapovalov continues.

In Auckland, Denis Shapovalov followed up on a good form from the inaugural ATP Cup. However, Karen Khachanov did not manage to do so and Fabio Fognini continues in losing streak.
The third day at the ASB Classic was also full of three-set matches. In the first two matches, in which John Isner faced Tenny Sandgren and Marco Cecchinato played against Leonardo Mayer, we have seen a total of 5 tie-breaks in 6 sets. Matches were played for a total of almost 6 hours and so the day kicked-off perfectly for the spectators in New Zealand.
Then, players like Hubert Hurkacz, Benoit Paire or Ugo Humbert succeded in their 2nd round matches. But we also saw two surprises when Fabio Fognini lost to Feliciano Lopez after winning the first set. And Karen Khachanov did the very same thing later on against John Millman.
Denis Shapovalov was the only player from the TOP 3 seeded who was successful on Day 3. After defeating his countryman Vasek Pospisil in two-sets, the young Canadian is the top seed of the tournament.
