An epic clash between Denis Shapovalov and Karen Khachanov happened on Court No. 1 with the Canadian emerging victorious 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-1 6-4.
A magical Wimbledon continues for Denis Shapovalov as the Canadian is through to the semifinal which will be his first Grand Slam semifinal. Shapovalov won the 2016 Wimbledon as a Junior and now he is playing excellent tennis once again. Shapovalov started off well winning the first set with 6-4 simply by playing better tennis.
Khachanov could not really match Shapovalov from the baseline but the Russian was able to find several ways to frustrate the Canadian. The Russian attacked his 2nd serve with success which won him the 2nd set with 6-3. The 3rd set was a very interesting one as Shapovalov was actually the better player.
He served well and dropped very few points on serve hitting winners at a good rate. He racked up 16 of them but he also had 10 errors one of which was costly. He committed him on the only break point Khachanov had which sealed the set for the Russian 7-5. Shapovalov had three of his own but failed to use either.
Shapovalov raised his level even more in the next set and he was more focused not allowing Khachanov any tricks. He attacked his 2nn serve with great success winning the set 6-1. In the final one, he was once again the better player as Khachanov dropped off physically after another 5-setter. Shapovalov was able to sloe it out with 6-4 for his first Wimbledon semifinal.
