Juan Martin
del Potro participated in an exhibition match in China alongside Carlos Moya,
Marat Safin, and
David Ferrer.
The
exhibition event took place in Hangzhou, China, marking the unofficial start of
professional tennis in China after four years. The four tennis legends joined
forces to play a doubles match.
Del Potro
teamed up with Carlos Moya to compete against David Ferrer and Marat Safin. Former
US Open champion took to Twitter to share some photos from the event with the other
tennis legends and expressed his appreciation for them.
“Sharing a
court with these legends is a privilege," he tweeted.
In the
exhibition, British player Emma Raducanu was scheduled to participate but had
to cancel her presence due to flu-like symptoms. Some Chinese players,
including Li Zhe, He Ycong, Wang Xiaofei, and Wang Fa, also competed in the
exhibition tournament. The tournament started on June 22 and will conclude on
Sunday, June 25.
Del Potro
recently spoke with the Argentine media outlet Pagina12, where he expressed his
desire to play in the US Open one last time if his physical condition allows
it.
“With the
US Open I have an internal desire, that is to step on the court for the last
time and play a worthy game. My health sends me messages that are not
compatible with that desire. If in a month, the body tells me that I can't do
it, that I choose another way to close my career, I'm going to listen to it.
But every day, I get up to fulfill my wish until I have to make an
announcement," he said.
