Novak Djokovic breaks the mark of 100 wins at
Wimbledon, advancing to the fourth round by sweeping aside compatriot
Miomir Kecmanovic (No. 49) 6-3, 6-0, 6-3. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was impeccable for much of the match and overcame some brief struggles to seal the victory.
"Nole" got entangled in the final part of the match, but it wasn't enough for Kecmanovic to trouble his opponent. The former world No. 1 returns to the Wimbledon fourth round for the 17th time in his career, and becomes the second player to cross the 100-win mark at SW19, only behind Roger Federer (105).
First Set: Djokovic takes control
The start seemed even, with Kecmanovic arriving on Centre Court with the personality to rival the 24-time Grand Slam champion. During the first part of the set, Kecmanovic held his serve without problems until 3-3. Djokovic, however, stepped on the gas and, as throughout the tournament, clung to his serve and waited for his opportunity.
The former world No. 1 secured the break in the eighth game and then clinched the set with his serve 6-3. He had a 74% first-serve percentage, winning 80% of those points. The 7-time Wimbledon champion was much more aggressive than his opponent, with 22 winners against Kecmanovic's mere 11. The 38-year-old star committed only 6 unforced errors compared to 11 from his compatriot.
Second Set: Djokovic's flawless display
Djokovic capitalized on the momentum after a seemingly even passage of the match. The world No. 6 entered the second set with an immediate break and, with his serve, surged ahead 2-0. "Nole" was almost untreatable in this set, and Kecmanovic deepened his errors, watching the set quickly slip away.
Djokovic conceded just two points on his serve throughout the set (an 86% effectiveness), while winning 71% of return points (12/17). The sixth seed had a perfect set, which took him only 24 minutes to secure three more consecutive breaks and get the set by 6-0.
Third Set: Nole seals historic win
Kecmanovic managed to break Djokovic's streak of nine consecutive games to start the third set. However, the 26-year-old quickly lost control of the set when Djokovic secured a break on his first chance in the third game. Again, it was a "Nole" streak: two consecutive breaks and five games in a row left him 5-2 up and on the verge of his 100th victory.
However, Kecmanovic still had some fight left and capitalized on the pressure on Djokovic. The world No. 49 held a service game and then secured his first break opportunity of the match. "Nole" served for the win but couldn't convert, and Kecmanovic narrowed the gap to 5-3.
Djokovic had a second opportunity to close out the win, and despite Kecmanovic hinting at a comeback—when Nole was down 15-30—the veteran former No. 1 ultimately sealed the victory without issues, 6-3, 6-0, 6-4. His next opponent will be 11th seed Alex de Minaur, who recently defeated August Holmgren—a Danish qualifier surprise.
