Daniil Medvedev will be in sheer agony right now and rightfully so as his dream of sealing a second Grand Slam came to an end again in heartbreaking fashion.
Medvedev lost in the final of the 2024 Australian Open from two sets up which has been a hallmark of all of his final losses most notably against Rafael Nadal in the 2019 US Open final when he went two back in reply and lost in heartbreaking fashion. Similar also happened in the 2022 Australian Open against Novak Djokovic but in similar vein to this loss.
But it also unlocks an unwanted statistic. He becomes the only player in the Open Era to lose multiple Grand Slam finals from two sets up. It isn’t all doom and gloom as he is still a Grand Slam champion but his all or nothing mentality in this tie caught up with him as Sinner picked his moments in a 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 win.
