Simona Halep lost the opening set in her match against Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open but she came back to win the next two and reach the quarterfinals.

It took Simona Halep less than two hours to complete the comeback win over Iga Swiatek after she lost the opening set 3-6. She went on to win the next two 6-1 6-4 booking a spot in the quarterfinals.

The first set was an interesting one that started with both players playing well and winning games without any issues. Late in the set, Swiatek found herself in a situation where she needed to save two break points. She did it and went on to break Halep in the next game giving her the decisive 5-3 lead which became a 6-3 opening set victory. Halep struggled on her 2nd serve winning 2/8 points on it but generally played a good set of tennis.

It became even better tennis in the 2nd set where Halep quickly took control with an early break that threw Swiatek out of rhythm. She could not hit her shots and fired 12 unforced errors losing the set 1-6. Halep started off the final set more focused as well taking an early 2-0 lead. The pole started playing very aggressive and got a lucky break when Halep played a flat game making it 2-2. But that aggressiveness came with a cost as she rushed from error to error. Halep broke her once more to take a 4-2 lead.

Swiatek wasn't giving up on her playstyle and she continued to play aggressive but Simona was able to hold on to the lead making it 5-4. When she stepped up to serve for the match she was able to win the game without dropping a point rounding up a strong performance. Swiatek played aggressively but as the match progressed she made more mistakes and Halep was able to win the match due to timely play. She posted a positive winner-error ratio, unlike Swiatek who had a negative and that proved key.
