Following his dominant victory over Carlos Alcaraz at this week's China Open, Jannik Sinner is set to achieve a new milestone of World No.4 as he continues his ascent the ATP rankings table.
The 22-year old battled past Alcaraz to reach the final in Beijing, recording a 7-6(4) 6-1 victory in dramatic fashion. Having engaged in numerous battles with the former World No.1, Sinner proved to be the superior player in their semifinal encounter.
Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev in the final, and will emerge as the World No.4 regardless of the outcome. In addition to setting a new career-high, Sinner will also become the highest-ranked ATP player in the history of Italian tennis, equaling Adriano Panatta. The retired Italian player climbed as high as World No.4 in 1976, the same year he won his lone Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.
