Danish tennis star
Holger Rune saw his 2023
China Open conquest come to a quick end at the hands of
Grigor Dimitrov, although the former World No.4 admitted he did not perform at his full potential.
Rune defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opening round match in Beijing, before falling to Dimitrov in straight sets. The 20-year old has seen the second half of his season interrupted by injuries, as he had racked up seven consecutive losses on tour before his win over Auger-Aliassime.
Lack of match play aided in his poor form, according to Rune
Following his loss to Dimitrov, Rune spoke about his mental and physical state during his match against Dimitrov.
"Yeah, started not very well today, unfortunately," admitted Rune. "Managed to start playing some decent tennis from Love-4 in the first set. Then, yeah, I never really found my level. Probably playing around 20% of what I can. But, yeah, that's how it is sometimes. I haven't played many matches in the past also. Trying to get the rhythm back. And, yeah, congrats to Grigor."
