Former World No.1 Iga Swiatek has been extremely successful on the tennis court, and the Polish star would like to inspire the younger generation into participating in activities outside of social media.
Following a shock quarterfinal exit in Tokyo last week, Swiatek is currently competing at the China Open in Beijing. The four-time Grand Slam champion took some time to talk to the press after her round of 32 win over Varvara Gracheva, and stated she would like to help motivate children to engage in hobbies outside of social media.
“I felt like people were forgetting to read because there are so many things we can do now," said the 22-year old. "A lot of kids spend time on social media or YouTube all the time or just on the Internet. I just want to show them another perspective & a different way to spend their time.
"It's kind of convincing young people to read a little more. I feel like my life is more balanced when I read & it's a great way for me to spend free time. I always like to go to a different world with my mind. It’s like a trip for me."
