Toni Nadal, the uncle of former world number one Rafael Nadal, believes that Spain’s young tennis sensation
Carlos Alcaraz is better than Italy’s
Jannik Sinner. The two are already regarded as among the best players currently playing men’s tennis in the singles category.
Toni, the uncle of the former world number one and Spain’s legendary tennis star Nadal was recently quoted in a report as saying that Alcaraz is better than Sinner as he has more to offer on the court.
"Alcaraz is the better, he does more things than Sinner
on the court,” he said. “I see Alcaraz with more options to do more things on
the court. Sinner has strong control, although I think Alcaraz is slightly
better in terms of mentality. Both are equally strong on all surfaces, because
the game has become uniform.”
Those remarks are interesting as Alcaraz and Sinner have
been extremely impressive on the court recently. The Spaniard, who is the current
world number three, has recently won the French Open after beating Germany’s Alexander
Zverev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1,
6-2. However, he recently suffered a
defeat in the second round of the Queen’s ATP championship to Britain’s youngster
Jack Draper in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3.
On the other hand, Sinner has been in fabulous form this season, and it is because of that he recently became the world number one, replacing Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic. The 37-year-old lost the top spot
after being forced to withdraw from the French Open because of a knee injury.
Sinner’s most recent appearance came in the Halle Open, where he lifted the
title after beating Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets with a score of
7-6, 7-6. It was his fourth title this season after the Australian Open, the ATP event
in Rotterdam and the Miami Open.
