Alexander Zverev won back to back events he attended with the Olympic Games and the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Heading into the
US Open where Zverev is defending the final from last year the German is looking like a dangerous opponent for Novak Djokovic whom he defeated in Tokyo. The rise has been impressive to watch claims, Boris Becker. The former tennis player said:
"I have never seen him play so good. Something mentally changed there. He was down against Djokovic and then he started playing like possessed. It's all in the head, how you deal with pressure and he showed that."
Many believe Zverev and Medvedev are the only two players capable of beating Novak Djokovic at the moment and denied him the completion of the calendar grand slam. Zverev always believed himself capable of doing it and Becker is seeing a change:
"Slowly but surely he is slipping into the role of a really great player, a true champion. The way he won Cincinnati dropping only one set in the semifinal is a huge step forward."
For Becker Novak Djokovic is still the clear favourite for the US Open but he has Zverev as the 2nd most likely to win it ahead of Daniil Medvedev.
