Stan Wawrinka is set to make his long-awaited return to tennis at the Andalucia Open Challenger in Marbella next week.
The Swiss player has missed well over a year of tennis action due to repeated injuries that forced him to first undergo surgeries and then prolong his recovery process. It's been a long and grinding process for Wawrinka who never quite lost motivation during that time. In a few interviews, he gave he admitted to being unsure of how good he could really be but his desire to still play competitive tennis ultimately prevailed.
His first match in a long time will be played at the Andalucia Open in Marbella next week. It's a challenger event that usually draws a very strong field and the 2022 will feature Wawrinka as well. It's a clay event that should test Wawrinka and his physique rather well considering the taxing nature of tennis on the red dirt.
