Stan Wawrinka had a decent run in Metz reaching the semi-final of the event and it will allow him to return to the top 200.

Wawrinka admitted recently that he understands that his career is fairly close to the end but he's still enjoying playing the sport and this week he proved he still has some reserves left in the tank. The Swiss player played some amazing tennis beating Daniil Medvedev no less en route to his run to the semi-final of the event.

He played that match against Bublik today but retired after only 3 games due to a thigh injury. The run will push him back into the top 200 which is a very good result for the veteran. Wawrinka is expected to play in Sofia next week but his injury might prevent him from doing that.

In his latest press conference in France, he said:

"The enjoyment was there though the whole match. Of course there is fatigue, physical and mental, and also a lot of errors, but it was a high level and I'm very happy to have won this tiebreak. It's a great victory, with great crowd support. I feel as if I'm playing at home."
