The three-time Major champion Stan Wawrinka underwent a minor left foot procedure, bothered by the pain in recent months and eager to return to the practice court as soon as possible.
The Swiss won only three matches so far in 2021, keeping his position around the 20th spot on the ATP list but not playing his best tennis since the season restarted. Stan gave Jeremy Chardy a walkover in Melbourne 2 ahead of the Australian Open, where he suffered a tight loss to Marton Fucsovics in the deciding tie break after four hours.
Stan couldn't find his A-game in the upcoming events, losing in the Rotterdam first round to Karen Khachanov and suffering a heavy loss to Lloyd Harris in three tight sets in Doha. Wawrinka will have to take a couple of weeks off, hoping to compete again in May in Madrid and Rome.
"Hey guys, I just wanted to update you. After having some problems with my left foot for a while, I have decided to do a small procedure. Everything went well. I will be out for a few weeks but can't wait to start practicing again soon," Stan Wawrinka said.
